Hearing from readers who were struggling with eating disorders made me want to write about their battle. Those clever word games are used to powerful effect, from the endless repetitions of Lia’s self-hating mantras to the crossed-out words that give the lie to her own thoughts.

About Laurie Halse Anderson. It was not a bad book, just not for me.
She has been dealing with this eating disorder for quite some time and none of the help she received has made much of a difference. I wish I could say this story is uncommon, extreme, exaggerated and sensational. Laurie Halse Anderson is a master at her craft, and as mentioned earlier I definitely agree with everyone who claims that she writes beautiful, yet haunting stories.
I worked with psychiatrists and other doctors who specialize in the treatment of eating disorders. Is it OK for kids to read books outside their reading levels? I want to eat like a normal person eats, but I need to see my bones or I will hate myself even more and I might cut my heart out or take every pill that was ever made.

The dirt in this case is, of course, herself. Lia’s protests don’t make you feel like she is being a typical rebellious teen, either. Wintergirls has received mostly positive reviews from critics. Pages were completely andersoj with no text. Mar 26, 46milestogo rated it did not like it. But Laurie Halse Anderson is very close to the top of the list of my favorite authors who write for teens, and this is the second title in the row of hers that I’ve given two stars.
I will definitely be checking out more books from this author.
I never developed a clinical eating disorder, but for decades I had a very confused image of myself, and I put way too much emphasis on how I looked. It makes me want to scream.
