The volume is divided in four parts with 20 chapters. Russian and American writers seem equally prone to romanticizing or valorizing their soldiers. Stwlingrad authors also document where Soviet spearheads were blunted when they ran into prepared German formations, and leave the reader with the hint of an impression that if the 6th Army’s flanks had not been robbed, the results of the Russian offensive may have been different. There is a lot of detail left out, but knowing what I know now, I think it is better to read this volume first and then expand your knowledge of the battle with the four volume series.
